Exxon marketing has been upgrading their Distribution terminals and G.R.
Birdwell Construction has been apart of 4 of these projects. The work
was of a critical nature due to the potential hazards involved in working
in a plant with continuous operations, and excavating around active fuel
lines.
Our scope included upgrading the off spec product piping by removing the
old piping and installing new piping above ground. Prior to beginning the
rework of all containment areas, we located all existing underground pipelines.
Once, elevation was verified the grades were modified and the dikes were raised,
to increase their containment capacity. Rainwater drainage piping was installed
with a monitoring station to check the water for possible contamination and all
dikes were covered with limestone to ensure their durability
